The administration of 4,000 parking spaces on the exhibition grounds provided them with significant resources, thanks to the increase in visitors and exhibitors.
Beyond the different business opportunities in the mining-energy industry generated by EXPONOR in its recent edition, it also contributed positively to the social value of the region by once again providing the Antofagasta Fire Department with the opportunity to administer the vehicle parking area.
Administering the 4,000 parking spaces on the exhibition grounds allowed the city's Fifth and Tenth Fire Companies to collect over 20 million pesos; a resource that increased considerably and allowed them to purchase personal protective equipment, gas detectors, rescue devices, a thermal camera, and training courses, among others.
“It's important to participate in activities that generate resources for the Firefighters, so we can provide an optimal service to the community, which is what we are doing now. Full equipment for each firefighter, from their boots to their respirator, costs at least 8 million pesos", said Guillermo Murquio, Director of the Tenth Fire Company.
Contribution
The purchase of this equipment will benefit the residents of central and northern Antofagasta. This area is covered by the Fifth and Tenth companies, who attend an average of 20 to 25 emergencies per month. They also do other work as a specialized team, providing support to the entire city, region and/or north of Chile, as required by the National Operations System (SNO).
For example, the Fifth Fire Company specializes in rescue on different levels with ropes, mining rescues and rescues on difficult terrain, so the injection of new resources thanks to EXPONOR made it possible to purchase two multi-functional CAPTO devices, which reduce the number of people required for a rescue and are easy to use.
“We're happy, we didn't expect to make as much as we did. This allows us to purchase high-cost equipment, such as the CAPTO; it's extremely useful to us as a rescue group", said Marcelino Lepe, Director of that institution.
