SAFETY AND RISK PREVENTION POLICIES

It is the policy of the Antofagasta Industrial Association, AIA, to carry out its activities responsibly, ensuring the health and physical integrity of all its collaborators, exhibitors and the visiting public, assuming safety to be a superior value, and is committed to achieving zero accidents through effective safety administration in all operations.

To achieve this goal:
In accordance with Supreme Decree 594 of the Ministry of Health, Article 53, employers must provide their workers, free of charge, with the personal protective equipment appropriate to the risk to be covered, and the necessary instruction for its correct use, and must also keep it in perfect working order. For their part, workers must use it the entire time they are exposed to the risk.

Supreme Decree 40, article 21 states that "employers have the obligation to inform all their workers, in a timely and appropriate manner, about the risks involved in their work, the preventive measures, and the correct work methods".

Supreme Decree 594 addresses the basic sanitary and environmental conditions that must exist in the workplace, and establishes that employers of exposed workers must manage the risk of UV radiation of solar origin, adopting appropriate control measures.

It is mandatory that assembly companies and their personnel have all their safety implements: helmet, safety footwear, harness and certified scaffolding, among others (Law 16.744), which must be provided free of charge and suitable for the risk to be covered. All the provisions associated with these regulations during EXPONOR are contained in the Official Regulation and the Operations Manual, (click on each title to see them).

BASIC PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE):
  • Head protection: hard hat
  • Eye protection: safety glasses, dark or light, as applicable
  • Hearing protection (exposed to noise)
  • Hand protection: gloves
  • Foot protection: safety footwear
  • Working at height: safety harness, chinstrap
  • Workwear: long trousers, long-sleeve t-shirt
  • Hot Work: leather clothing, welding mask
  • Sun protection: long-sleeve shirt, Factor 50 sunblock

IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE OCCURRENCE OF OCCUPATIONAL ACCIDENTS AND ILLNESSES, CONTRACTOR AND SUBCONTRACTOR COMPANIES MUST IMPOSE PROHIBITIONS ON THEIR WORKERS:

  • Consumption and reporting to work under the influence of alcohol, illicit drugs or narcotics, introducing them into the workplace, consuming them in the workplace, or giving them to third parties to consume, is prohibited, as is smoking in places not designated for this.
  • Travel in vehicles or travel in machines that are not designed or fitted out for this, especially for the transport of personnel.
  • Perform work at height, or near openings, without their fall protection system (harness).
  • Use personal protective equipment that is in poor condition, inappropriate, or whose proper functioning and use is unknown.
  • Exceed the speed limits set by the EXPONOR 2024 Organizing Committee: 20 km in the exhibition grounds.
  • It is forbidden to handle dangerous substances, such as explosive, flammable, corrosive or toxic substances, etc., without being duly authorized and without knowledge of the corresponding safety sheet.
Contractor, construction and stand module companies must have their Startup Folder for the start of the works. This folder facilitates the processing and approval of entry into the worksite, ensuring that all legal and safety requirements are met from the beginning of the project.

  • Namely:
    • Employment contracts for workers.
    • Obligation to inform workers of risks.
    • Record of delivery of Internal Regulations to workers.
    • Risk Prevention Plan for the works.
    • Control log for the Expert's visitors to the worksite setup.
    • Tools and Equipment Maintenance Program.
    • List of works personnel.
    • Updated record of delivery of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
    • Certificate of membership of mutual insurance company/accident rate
    • Control log for the attendance of works personnel.
    • Revised, updated, disseminated and evaluated work procedures.
    • Certificate for workers who perform work at physical height.

In simple terms, this means that it is not acceptable for people to be injured while working at AIA facilities. AIA personnel are authorized, at any time, to make observations regarding safety, occupational health and the environment, regarding which they will verbally inform the contractor's or subcontractor's closest supervisor and document, in writing, individualizing the facts and names of those involved.

This information is governed by the Risk Prevention Policies for collaborator companies and contractors, and the Official Regulations of the Twentieth International Exhibition of Technologies and Innovations for the Mining and Energy Industry, EXPONOR 2024.
