May 15-19th, 2017, Antofagasta - Chile

With a great turnout, including authorities, trade association representatives and mining executives, the main mining event in Chile this year was officially inaugurated. The President of the Antofagasta Industrial Association emphasized that deals worth around US$ 800 million are expected to be closed during this fair. The international mining technology and innovation exhibition, Exponor 2017, is finally underway. The inauguration was attended by the sector’s main authorities and leaders, headed up by the Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, the Minister of the Treasury, Rodrigo Valdés and the President of the Antofagasta Industry Association (AIA), Marko Razmilic. At that time, those participating agreed that the exhibition is vital for revitalizing the mining industry and becoming an important platform for transferring knowledge and innovative experiences. Meanwhile, the organizing trade association forecast positive economic results of the fair. Along these lines, the president of the AIA stated that “business expectations for Exponor 2017 are that it will generate business for US$ 800 million, and will increase productivity and the competitiveness of our industry. Innovations and technologies are present on a large-scale throughout this exhibition, so we therefore believe that the results will be very interesting for the domestic mining industry at this time.” The Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, stated her optimism regarding the impact of Exponor, taking into account the great value of the Region of Antofagasta and the investment projects that are currently in the assessment stage as well as those that are underway. “The portfolio of projects from here to 2025 totals around 50 thousand million dollars. 41% of this sum will be carried out in the Region of Antofagasta, with 12 mining projects.” She also added that “innovation and the development of a knowledge economy has evolved here, in the Region of Antofagasta.” At that time, the participation of the mining companies SQM, El Abra and Codelco was highlighted, for their contribution towards the Colegio Técnico Industrial Don Bosco Calama educational project, whose third stage is currently under construction. Official tour and inauguration of stands As with all editions of the exhibition, the ceremony included an official tour of the fair, which highlighted the inauguration of the United States stand, the Exponor 2017 host country, at which time its most senior representative, the ambassador Carol Z. Perez, emphasized the solid presence of U.S. companies in this edition. “We have around 100 companies at Exponor, which are seeking to expand their ties with Chilean mining. There are currently around 500 North American companies in the local market, mainly linked to technology, machinery and equipment, and innovation, which translates into 23% market share”. Finally, there was an official lunch in the Chuquicamata salon, where China was announced as the host country for Exponor 2019, finishing off the official fair inauguration activities.
