Minera Meridian and partnerships at Exponor 2019: "Mining companies and suppliers must seek strategic partnerships and Exponor plays a fundamental role in that"
Roberto Martínez, General Manager of Minera Meridian, which operates El Peñón mine, confirmed his company's participation in the international exhibition to take place next year in Antofagasta, and called for companies in the country and the Region of Antofagasta to take advantage of this gathering for the mining industry. A resounding call to take part and make the most of the business opportunities on offer at Exponor 2019 has come from Roberto Martínez, General Manager at Minera Meridian, the subsidiary of the Canadian firm Yamana Gold that operates El Peñón mine. Martínez confirmed his company's participation in the international exhibition, which will take place next year in Antofagasta, the world's mining capital. "Exponor is a great platform for suppliers to make themselves known and promote new products in particular, as well as the existing ones which we as purchasing companies may not be aware of. I think this is a good platform for making contacts, getting to know each other and looking for strategic partners. "Today, mining companies and suppliers must seek strategic partnerships, and Exponor plays a fundamental role in that", explained the General Manager of the Yamana Gold subsidiary. Martínez also emphasized that "all of us as mining companies should be at Exponor, just as El Peñón with Minera Meridian and its partner companies will be there exhibiting our products. If we don't exhibit, if we are not there part of the platform, if we don't all work together and get to know what each other are doing, then it will obviously be more difficult to showcase the products and services out there". With regards to supplier relations for mining companies, Martínez highlighted the importance of suppliers to operations. "Suppliers are our strategic partners in the delivery of all of our projects. No mining company can say that it would be able to work without its suppliers. With this in mind, both mining companies and suppliers should work to enhance productivity, safety, as well as other important issues in this environment".
Minera Meridian itself is undergoing a process of enhancement of its internal processes. The General Manager explained that "we have been working for some time now on several process enhancement systems. There is also a broad program of continuous improvement, particularly through the application of LEAN methodology across our processes, from the mine to the plant. Technology, continuous improvement and productivity are therefore part of what we do every day". This year, El Peñón will also be carrying out its 'Exploration Program 2018', with the aim of expanding its measured, indicated and inferred ore reserves, as well as testing deep extensions to major veins and probing secondary structures to identify new opportunities for core pits. Along these lines, the inferred ore reserves within the core area of the mine have successfully been raised to the status of ore reserves, extending the life of the mine and compensating for the exhaustion of existing resources for stable long term production. Yamana Gold is a Strategic Partner for the 2019 edition of Exponor, which will take place from May 27th to 30th with China as guest nation. The exhibition also has the backing of other key actors in the sector such as Albemarle, Antofagasta Minerals, Lomas Bayas, Minera Escondida, SQM and the Supplier Qualification System (SICEP). Its sponsors are: the Mining Council, Sonami, Sofofa, Aprimin, the Government of Chile, the Ministry of Mining, the Ministry for the Economy, Development and Tourism, Pro Chile and the Regional Government of Antofagasta. Its press partners are are the magazine Minería Chilena, Radio Bío Bío and Reporte Minero.
