Ellen Lenny-Pessagno, Albemarle Chile country manager: "Exponor lets us put the dialogue and collaboration of the new lithium mining into action"
The top representative of the American lithium producer in Chile confirmed the company's participation at Exponor 2019 and highlighted the importance of Chile for the development of its investments and its search for new suppliers. More major participants have been confirmed for the most important mining event of 2019 in Chile. One of the world's main lithium producers, Albemarle, has once again confirmed that it will be present at Exponor, the international business platform in Antofagasta. The country manager of Albemarle in Chile, Ellen Lenny-Pessagno, spoke about the company's participation in the exhibition, highlighting the fact that "we face the great challenge of continuing to increase our production to meet the demand for lithium, which comes overwhelmingly from electric vehicles. In this context, we are always interested in getting to know more and better suppliers, who can support our growth with efficiency, safety and sustainability". Along the same lines, Lenny-Pessagno underlined the importance of Exponor 2019 to "show what we do and what we promise in the future. It is an excellent opportunity for the visiting public, beyond mining companies, to get to know the characteristics of the new lithium mining industry". The top executive of the company also pointed to the importance of Chile for Albemarle, which has positioned itself as a strategic partner for the development of the new lithium mining. "We have partnered with the Chilean state for 40 years in the development of the lithium industry in this country. We want to continue contributing and believing in the solid institutionality that Chile has shown for investments. We have a long-term agreement with Corfo, which we have upheld fully, contributing through the construction of new plants, through our close and mutually beneficial relationship with the Council of Atacameño peoples, through support for R&D worth US$ 300 million by the end of the contract, through agreements with universities and centers for studies. All of these contributions directly improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the Region of Antofagasta and make ours a product with an extremely high value added. We want to continue growing with the country and contributing to the development of the new lithium mining", Lenny-Pessagno concluded. At the previous version of Exponor, held in May 2017, the North American company officially opened its plant in Antofagasta known as La Negra II, the most modern battery-grade lithium carbonate production plant in Latin America. Exponor 2019, which will take place from May 27th to 30th with China as guest nation, has the backing of relevant actors in the sector such as Albemarle, Antofagasta Minerals, Codelco, Lomas Bayas, Minera Escondida, SQM, Yamana Gold and the Supplier Qualification System (SICEP).
